Act 5:5,10
And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
Q - Why was Ananias so severely punished for telling a lie?
A - The judgment against Ananias served as proof of the upright conduct of the apostles, in managing the donations with which they were entrusted, since nobody would imagine that Peter could have the power to execute such a sentence if he himself were guilty of any kind of fraud.
