Exo 33:20
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Q - Why did God tell Moses that he could not see him and live?
A - Human beings in their sinful state cannot see God in all his glory and live. (Deu 4:24) For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. (Heb 12:29) for our God is a consuming fire. (Isa 33:14) The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: "Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?"
