Mar 9:43,44
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Q - Does Jesus really want us to cut off our hands or pluck out our eyes to keep ourselves from sinning?
A - No, Jesus is speaking figurativly. He is using shocking metaphors to get the attention of the people listening and make his point. Because sin is so terrible we must do everything in our power to eradicate it from our lives even if it means giving up things that are very dear to us. (Mar 8:36) For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
